MATCHDAY 5 – Premier League Preview

Here we will take a look at the upcoming fixtures in Matchweek 5 of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

My game of the week goes to the Merseyside Derby. Everton has looked fantastic since the start of the season and I think they will continue their unbeaten run through this game. Liverpool was beyond disappointing in their previous 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa. They have now proven they are susceptible to conceding and I think Carlo Ancelotti will look to exploit this again. We are going to see end to end football all the way through and I’m sure it will be a very thrilling game.

My prediction: 3-2

Man of the Match: Dominik Calvert-Lewin

Chelsea will look to kick on as two key players return from injury. I’m certain both Pulisic and Ziyech will feature in this one and both will more than likely be key features in this fixture, especially if Pulisic can find the form he finished last season with. Danny Ings still looks extremely threatening in front of goal and Chelsea’s notoriously leaky defence will need to keep a close eye on him to make sure this game doesn’t run away from them on the counter. I think Chelsea will breeze through this game and earn themselves a key clean sheet early on in the season.

My prediction: 2-0

Man of the Match: Christian Pulisic

Another great game this week sees Arsenal travel to Manchester City. City will look to try and exploit Liverpool dropping points and battle a fun looking Arsenal side for a very important 3 points. This game is certainly going to be a tough test for Arsenal’s new defence but they will breathe a sigh of relief after news that Kevin De Bryune will miss this one. Arsenal will look to threaten on the break and try and find whatever they can against a solid City defence.

My prediction: 3-1

Man of the Match: Phill Foden

Manchester United have struggled to find consistent form and I think Newcastle are going to test Ed Woodward’s patience with Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Newcastle on paper are building a good side but the new signings still seem to need time to adjust to the very robust 4-4-2. I think Man U will want to control as much of the ball as possible but Newcastle’s strong shape will stop any effectiveness of their pace on the attack. I see this game ending all square and Man U fans will be looking for answers.

My prediction: 1-1

Man of the Match: Paul Pogba

Another tough match for Fulham sees them face Sheffield United. Both teams haven’t been able to grab much from any of their opening games and the result from here will boost their hopes to stay up this season. I do think Sheffield will control a lot of the ball and Fulham are going to have to do a lot to stay alive in this match up. If Fulham manage to get some chances, I would only ever want Mitrovic in the box to put them away. Sheffield’s new signing Brewster will also look to get off the mark this season.

My prediction: 1-1

Man of the Match: Sander Berge

Both sides have had excellent results early on and I can see this one being a very tough battle for either side. Although Brighton has made reinforcements at the back they still seem to be leaky and the very talented attack which Palace offer, will look to exploit all wider areas of the back three. Lampety has been excellent for Brighton and I think he will be another key figure in this fixture. This is gonna be a cagey one and I think they will end up sharing the points in a thrilling match.

My prediction: 3-3

Man of the Match: Wilfried Zaha

A match with a lot of history treats us to a London Derby that always offers a fantastic watch. West Ham have been on earth-shattering form of late, after picking up back to back emphatic wins against Wolves and Leicester but I think this test will just prove too tough. Tottenham have looked very good going forward after smashing 6 goals past Manchester United. I can see Tottenham scoring early and the game running away from the Hammers.

My prediction: 3-0

Man of the Match: Harry Kane

Aston Villa is my dark horse of the season as they have looked miles above themselves last season. The plethora of new signing has given them so much choice and versatility they have not seen in a long time. Young captain Jack Grealish has performed in every match for them and I think his ability and eagerness to create goals is going to be a real handful for Leicester. This is going to be an important result for both as Leicester will look to pick up important points to try and battle for European spots once again.

My prediction: 1-2

Man of the Match: Jack Grealish

Both sides currently sit without a win and I can see it remaining that way after this game. Neither side has been able to make many chances this season and is going to look to start on the front foot. This game will either have a lot of goals or none at all and is going to be dictated entirely in the midfield. A penalty either way could separate the sides but I think this one will end in a tie.

My prediction: 0-0

Man of the Match: Jay Rodriguez

One of the most fun games of the weekend comes in the final game where two very exciting sides will battle till the last minute to grab another win. Leeds have shot out the gates as the newly-promoted side find themselves in the top half of the table with some excellent performances from a dominantly set up Bielsa side. Wolves were breathtaking last season and it seems to be taking them a little longer to find their usual free-flowing style of play. Both sides will need to make sure they are defending the space in behind as those are the areas both sides have plies of talent looking to run into. This game is going to be a slow one as both teams try their hardest to break down two well-executed systems.

My prediction: 2-2

Man of the Match: Rodrigo Moreno
