Suarez Sinks Teeth into Charity
Atletico Madrid forward, Luis Suarez, is known for his antics on the field but the light is rarely shown to his efforts away from the game, most notably in his home country of Uruguay.
In 2014, Suarez donated 500 gift baskets for Christmas to hospitalized children.
The next year two of his biggest fans were brought to tears of joy after gestures made by the Ex- Barcelona man. One being a young girl with cancer who could not believe her eyes when she received a skype call from Suarez.
Another fan brought Suarez to tears when meeting the boy fighting a rare blood disease, his next goal would be dedicated to this special fan.
Moments like these contradict the highly competitive nature that has brought out the worst of Luis Suarez, including biting more than one of his opponents.
The spotlight is on Suarez again this week after a large donation to the Ronald McDonald House Association.
The charity runs an event annually and Suarez seized on the opportunity to help out by purchasing 1,000 Big Macs.
The money from the order (around 4500 euros) will be used to help with accommodations for families of hospitalized children and pregnant women who are at risk.
The foundation provides aid to more than 7,000 families each year. Instead of biting into the Big Macs himself, the burgers were donated to a local youth league in the city of Pando, just outside the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo.
Although it may not be a lot of money to a professional footballer, it is certainly aid that will mean the world to families across Uruguay. Suarez was joined by fellow Uruguayan international and ex-Inter Milan player, Alvaro Recoba, in contributing to the charity.
