Team of the Week 15 – Prediction
What a team of the week we could get to start the year in style.
Ronaldo, Sancho and De Jong the standout cards.
But there’s also a few lower rated players that could fit the meta in Bailly, Donnarumma and Lacazette.
GK – Gianluigi Donnarumma – The young but experienced Italian shot stopper produced a fine string of saves as AC Milan travelled to Benevento hoping to remain top of the Serie A.
Donnarumma produced some fine saves and was consistent with distribution.
Benevento were awarded a penalty in the second half, Gianluigi Donnarumma made himself big but the penalty was struck wide.
The game finished 2-0 to AC Milan who continue their fine form into the new year.
CB – Eric Bailly – Manchester United hosted high flying Aston Villa.
Villa being no push over and have shown they have the ability to score goals.
Villa’s talisman Grealish was kept quiet thanks to the partnership of Wan Biassaka and Bailly on the right side of the defence.
Bailly made his biggest contribution minutes from time with his side leading 2-1.
Bailly threw his body at a shot from youngster Davis to block the shot destined for the net.
Securing his side all 3 points and sending them 2nd joint with leaders Liverpool.
CB – Toby Alderweireld – Alderweireld and co hosted Leeds United looking for their first win in 4.
An early Harry Kane penalty put the hosts 1-0 up before Kane turned provider and set up Son to make it 2
2-0 up and it was Alderweireld who kept the visitors at bay being a rock in the heart of the defence.
It was 5 minutes after the restart which saw Alderweireld get on the scoresheet.
A Son corner out swinging was met at the front post by Alderweireld who headed home to wrap up the game and ensure the 3 points belonged to them.
DL – Kieran Tiereny – It was a snowy day in the midlands but the Scottish international showed no signs of the cold getting to him braving the short-sleeved shirt.
It didn’t take long for him to impact the game just 23 minutes in when he received the ball wide left, cut inside before curling one past the Baggies GK with his weaker right foot.
A sublime goal a forward would be proud of, Tiereny provided the assist for his sides 4th just past the hour mark which saw Lacazette find the back of the net for his second.
Tierney was solid defensively and his side recorded their 3rd straight win.
CAM – Jaydon Sancho – Sancho and his side hosted top 4 chasing Wolfsburg.
Sancho who has been quiet this season made his mark in this game. Starting off 2021 in the best way.
His assist to teammate Akanji saw his side take a 1-0 lead shortly after the hour mark. He wrapped up the 3 points in the 92nd minute for his side as he shrugged off the challenge from two defenders before breaking through 1 v 1 with Casteels before making no mistake and wrapping the game up for his side.
CM – Piotr Zielinski – Napoli looked to start off their year right. Hoping to get back to winning ways after a bad end to 2020.
It was Zielinski who opened the scoring, thumbing a rocket from 22 years into the roof of the net to give his side a first half lead.
After levelling the game Cagliari fell victim to another piece of brilliance from Zielinski, a great first touch over the defender before a tidy finish into the top corner saw the keeper scrambling.
A piece of brilliance.
Napoli ran out eventual 4-1 winners and started 2021 better than they ended 2020.
CM – Frankie De Jong – Barcelona looked to grab their first win of the year.
It was 27 minutes into the game when the games only goal would happen.
A Messi assist saw Frankie De Jong score for his side.
Messi sent in a cross from deep, Frankie read the cross to perfection.
The keeper was rooted to his line and De Jong made no mistake to touch it home.
This would turn out to be the only goal of the game as his side will be hoping their form improves and the gab between the top closes up.
LM – Rafa – Benfica looked to end 2020 on a high as they hosted Portimonense.
It was their reliant midfielder Rafa who provided the assist for teammate Nunez to open the scoring 13 minutes in.
It was 10 minutes later where Rafa would find the net to give his side a 2-0 lead.
Benfica held on and ran out 2-1 winners. Ending the year on a high.
ST – Alexandre Lacazette – Two second half goals from Lacazette saw him double his sides lead and run out 4-0 winners against West Brom.
His first came after a blocked shot fell into his path before he smashed the ball home past the helped Johnstone.
His second was as easy as they come.
Teammate Tierney cut inside the box before hitting a low cross which was met by Lacazette inside the 6-yard box to bundle home.
Arsenal will be hoping 2021 starts better than 2020 ended.
ST – Cristiano Ronaldo – The champions hosted Udinese. It was the visitors who took a shock lead, a lucky escape for Juventus saw it ruled out for Handball.
It was the man himself who gave Juve the lead 31 minutes in. Driving in from the left after possession was won by Ramsey.
CR7 cut in from the left and hammered the ball past the keeper.
New year same Ronaldo.
The second half saw a pin point pass from Ronaldo find Chiesa who doubled their lead.
Ronaldo grabbed his second goal after Udinese lost possession and Ronaldo found himself 1 v 1 and he was never going to miss.
Juventus ran out 4-1 winners a game which saw Ronaldo break Pele’s all time goals record.
ST – Zapata – 2 goals and 1 assist vs Sassuolo.
GK – Darlow – 10 saves and clean sheet vs Liverpool.
RB – De Marcos – 1 assist in 1-0 win vs Elche.
CB – Ben Mee – 1 goal vs Sheffield United in 1-0 win.
LB – Moubandje – 1 goal in 3-0 win vs Basaksehir.
CDM – Soucek – 1 goal in 1-0 win vs Everton.
LW – Asensio – 1 goal and 1 assist in 2-0 win vs Celta Vigo.
LW – Foden – 1 goal and 1 assist in 3-1 win vs Chelsea
ST – Taremi – 2 goals in 3-2 win vs Vitoria de Guimaraes
LW – Romarinho – 2 goals in 2-1 win vs Al Batin
ST – Ducksch – 2 goals and 1 assist in 4-0 win vs Sandhausen
